Benefits of Flaxseed

Sri Sri Ayurveda’s Flaxseed Oil Capsules, contain oil extracted from Flaxseed, which are the richest sources of a plant based Omega Fatty Acids which are called Alpha Linoleic Acid. Flaxseeds have been consumed as a food for around 6000 years!


57% of the total fatty acids in Flaxseed Oil is Alpha Linoleic Acid (ALA), one of three Omega Fatty Acids. These are considered to be good fats and are beneficial to the heart. Flaxseed is one of the richest (if not the richest) sources of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Flaxseeds help lower cholesterol levels, improve digestion, and promote healthier skin.

In India, Flaxseed is known as Alsi. In Northern India, it is consumed traditionally by roasting, powdering and along with rice.  One of the main benefits of Flaxseed is that it is a rich source of mucilage gum content. Mucilage is a water-soluble gel forming fiber, which is highly beneficial for the intestinal tract. Mucilage holds the food for a longer duration in the stomach and thus increases nutrient absorption from the food.

Flaxseed is a rich source of Lignans. It contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant sources. Lignans are one of the major classes of phytoestrogens, which are essentially estrogen type compounds with antioxidant qualities that scavenge free radicals in the body.
